BLACK AND WHITE
hey you guysXZxzxzZX haha. i've been wanting to try out bnw photography for quite some time alr. only ever shot one roll for school, kodak bnw400cn. a few questions. which bnw films process in c41? which labs process "pure" bnw? i think i rather have c41 bnw photos, seeing as how im such a poor boy.

sumlom- 08-14-2008

i think fotohub does pure bnw. shalom also. now 3d also got do. but they accept limited numbers of roll per day i think. one thing to note is that c41 bnw contrast not as great as pure bnw.

i think there's only 1 c41 bnw film available in the market (could be another but i think that film maker -afga- went bust) and 2nding mafie and shawn's comments, true bnw films (like fuji neopan, tri-x and even tmax) have better tone and contrast than the c41 kodak anytime. aside from the a/m shops and places to develop, you can always go Colorlab @ Adelphi to develop, and Konota to print your bnw pictures (not advised to dev there, they take forever I feel), my friend swears by them for printing and I find their bnw prints very well done imo.

actually there is 2 c41 bnw available in the market one is kodak and the other is ilford.. u can actually get better results if ur self scanning the negs as the lab scans comes out with a bit of color cast due to the negatives...you can always learn to self develop as its cheaper in the long run if ur planning to do mostly bnw shots..

The Kodak BNW400CN can be processed in C41. Pure bnw will be the usual Era, Lucky and Fuji Neopan. Like they said, I guess pure bnw gives you better contrast. Anyway era and lucky only costs 4 bucks :D

My recipe: Plastic Developing tank w/2 spiral Black bag Thermometer Timer 2 cylinder : 1 for developer & 1 for fixer Developer: HC110 - mix to Dilution H 1:63 Stop bath : tap water Fixer : Ilford Rapid Fixer 1:3 Wetting Agent: 3 drops of Mama Lemon (optinal) I use Agfa APX 400: my developer timing is at 12mins. Agitate 1st 30 sec and continous of 10 sec every 1min interval. Stop bath use tap water about 4-6 rinse. Then add fixer 2-5mins. Agitate 1st 30sec and 10 sec every 1 min interval. Then final rinse use tap water for 15-20mins. Last part is the joyable or sadden part of the process. Drying, remove ur film from the spiral. Try not to use squeege or finger. Let it dry on it own. This is where u see the final result of ur film. Good luck and have fun. You about to be a mad scientist.
