Contact Sheet
Hi i'm thinking of doing a contact sheet, haven't come across this topic, hope i didn't miss it. does anyone know whether all photo labs do it? and how much would it cost (slides, negs, b/w)? and also, when someone says 'scan to cd', would my negatives be digitized as such, or would the correct color appear on my digitized images? thanks!

allo edward :) contact sheets can be done at all labs. usually, they would give a small (4R) version for free. If you require bigger contacts, would needa request for it. haven't been doing contact for the longest time, ppl usually do it last time because the labs were using manual machines. nowadays, when you scan to CD, you can view the images straight anyway. scanning to CD is the only way to go now. this is because nobody prints straight from film anymore. (something to think about: there is no pure analog print really.) when scanning is done, auto correction is done to your images. if you require zero adjustment, please do inform the lab clearly. No Adjustment to be done. Some of us do this initially as a proofing step to see if we are using the cameras correctly. (ie. are we applying proper exposure...etc) Eventually, most of us will still have the labs adjust our images. almost all xpro images are corrected heavily, especially on the density. (you can ask for zero adjustment if you wanna and see for yourself.) the best thing about scanning to CD is consistency. like mentioned above; all xpro images are adjusted by the labs. if you do prints straight back from film only, you will never be able to reprint exact replicas. this is due to the machine adjustments done at the labs, and dependent on the operator who is printing your film. okk: i think it's a little info overflow~ ask more. and we'll tell slowly :P

Hi jestre, nope it's not overflowing at all! haha thx very much for the info. Really quite clueless how developing film works already, been into digital for too long. when i first touched my film camera a few days ago i was like: eh how to load ah? lol. hmm ic, i dun rmb the labs giving me any 4R contact sheets in the past though, haha. I used to do my own developing back in ngee ann poly few yrs ago so we had to do contact sheets so i thgt it'll be nice to have. So it shouldn't be a problem for the labs to do if i request right? hope its not ex tho =D really? no one prints from film anymore? so printing is done from the scanned images now.. hmm. if i choose to print a bigger sized one, would the quality decrease as compared to a big print done from the original film? yep i understand the part abt consistency.. never could get an exact big print replica of the small picture from the contact sheet myself haha =( hmm let's just say I'm not satisfied with the 1st scan, i could always go to another lab to re-scan with the original roll of film right? oh yeah and issit a special film scanner? cuz i shot 2 rolls of negative film and 1 roll of b/w (not c41). so the scanner converts my negative film to the correct colors issit? haha sorry for all the questions, and thanks for getting me on the track back to film! :D

oh yeah i also have some old negatives that i wanna digitize, but im not interested in scanning the whole roll, issit possible to scan like maybe one strip of 6, since it's already cut up, at a lower price?
