Fisheye 2 - 1st roll failed badly
Hi all, I recently just got my precious - fisheye 2 white. Sad to say, my first roll failed very badly. Out of 36 shots, only a few shots were developed. Furthermore, among those few shots that were developed, they were all blurrish or too dark to be seen. What is wrong? My first roll I used KODAK ULTRA MAX 400 Film. Do types of films affect my photos? In addition, what are the tips and techniques to take pics using Fisheye 2? Is there a website that teaches that? Is it a must to use flash even in daylight tho' it's not very sunny? Arrgggh. Pls help. I just bought Fuji Superia 200 and I seriously want it to work 100% perfectly!!

Oh no. what a waste! Don't worry be happy. haha. ok here's some stuff. Films affect your results, definitely. The higher the speed, the more sensitive your film is to light. Eg. ISO200 films need more exposure of light than a film set at ISO400 because it's grains are smaller, need more light to capture a shot. Also, your FE2's default shutter speed on 'N' mode should be 1/100s? That's quite fast. That also affects your shots because shutter speed allows the time the shutter remains open for light to enter and capture images on your film. Tips i would say. Go as close as you can to the subject.(Get great distorts) Try the bulb mode, 'B' at night. With and without flash. Gives different results. Using flash in not-so-sunny situations will help light the place, but remember the in built flash is not that powerful. It will light up the subject but the background will not be as bright. Try and shoot on sunny days. Usually the rolls will come out very nice. Check out http://www.lomography.com/tips/(Credits to lomography.com) That's a mouthful but i hope it helps! post your future shots in the gallery man!

Possible to post the pics here to take a look?

Yes yes, Don't worry be happy. To jeffL and other interested parties, I'm gonna post up some photos taken with FE2 with references to caljoephua's post. Im used expired Centuria 200, with a FE2 where the flash doesnt fire with 'N' Mode but only on 'B' Mode. as we were saying that the default shutter speed is 1/100 and fixed aperture f/8, shooting directly at the afternoon sun will produce such image. A properly exposed image would be like below, with the subject facing the sun. Another point, do note that sometimes the evening sky may seem nice and dramatic, but the fisheye2 may not be able to capture full detail as it is too dark. Like, Now to the flash part of fisheye2. caljoephua said : "Using flash in not-so-sunny situations will help light the place, but remember the in built flash is not that powerful. It will light up the subject but the background will not be as bright. " Below is an example. I know that the evening time exposure will not capture my face. Hence I used the flash to light up my face. A properly exposed photo with flash will be something like Do note that because the flash is situated at the left side, part of your image will not be illuminated because of the protruding fisheye lens. Note that the right most girl is not illuminated. The flash is not very strong either like, and good use of multiple exposures can produces some cool images! I have a few instances where by my right thumb obstructed the MX tab on the fisheye2 beside the film advance wheel. If you fire with your thumb blocking the MX tab, the shutter will be left open! Yes do take note. I know some lomographers here have alot of experience on FE2! Maybe my explaination on some photos are wrong, do correct me! Till next time, bye!

Interesting! I have no experience with FE2, yr writeout is very helpful. Seems like FE2 needs at least ISO 400 for best effect?

ranon- 06-30-2008

very good writeup brandon. +1 for your effort.

caljoephua- 06-30-2008

Power la brandon! good explanation. vgohyk, i'm sure you'll be alright with the people here, just ask and don't afraid to. haha.

Its always good to have some reading guide before buying or going out field to shoot... But I doubt anyone will refer back to this when shooting lah hahahaha Go along with the lomo rule: Dont think, just shoot! We will learn as we make mistakes! :)

jeffL- 07-01-2008

I think i have to break the lomo rule a bit, cannot dun think & shoot, think a bit la if not waste film lei.

Ahhh yes, most of my pics were like the above! Very dark and blurish. Furthermore, among 36shots, only about 10shots were developed! So I supposed the only way that it will work well for FE2 is that it must be taken under the sunlight? If no sunlight, it's more or less equivalent to gone case? What about taking the images at night/indoor? All I need to do is on the flash? What's inbuilt flash tho? And I bought the Fuji Superia 200, can I work on this film now with my FE2? Any tips for this? Ahh, sorry for the many questions and thanks ALL for your great help!

vgohyk- 07-02-2008

Ahhh why no one is replying.

caljoephua- 07-02-2008

haha, vgohyk, relax! don't have t be so kan chiong about your FE2. it's a good camera. Sunlight is not the only condition that the FE2 can work at. Night time is definitely possible. But the built in flash is just not strong enough. Built in flash: It's the bulb of light that charges and fires when you shoots when you release your trigger. it's on the left of the camera. You need a battery to provide it power. and it's useful, but just not that powerful. Your roll of superia 200 will work, definitely. But because it's at ISO 200, go shoot in either bright sunny days, or at least it's a bright but cloudy day. Make sure your FE2 gets as much light as possible, it'll definitely help you to ensure that more than 10 shots are developed.

caljoephua, i saw your flickr album and i must say all photos are really well-taken! i so wish that my fisheye2 images could be like urs. i know its a good camera.. just so depressed when my effort gone down the drain when those photos were developed. :( so as you were saying, the built-in-flash is not strong enuff? what others do i need? and not strong enough meaning if i take images at night with the flash on, only myself can be seen, not the background. am i right to say that? thanks so much for your helppppp!

caljoephua- 07-03-2008

on the flash- yeah sadly it's like that. You can fit external flashes there. But it'll cost ya. My flickr dying, now no time to go shootXD sad.

stewpigsanz- 07-04-2008

i am new for my lomo cam... anyway i like the pics you took... may i know how long u usually hold the shutter button before you release it? sunny day, cloudy day and indoor/night. does the shaking of my hands affect the pictures?
