how do i clean my rolls of film that i've stored for years?
well i have loads of film that goes some time back... and yeah my parents film too... some of them looks dirty and all that. beyond just plain old dust. so... how do i clean the film? is there a solution that does all types of film? can i just rinse them in running tap water? wipe em with a damp cloth? suggestions?

why not just use them like that, cross your fingers and hope for something magical.

unfortunately the little stains and what nots does not make the scanned images look attractive... to be honest the little blotches of dunno what really looks ugly. after googling around, some people mentioned using water, which i tried, and came out really really really really bad. think i spoilt one strip of developed film. so before i do more damages, i'd think its better to find something that's more... refine? :-)

is it just the canister that is dirty or the film inside as well? cos if you stored them in a fridge or some other dry cool place, there shdnt be anything inside the canister that would damage your film.

they are developed film already. so they kinda stick to the plastic that the lab gives you after they cut the film into strips? so thats where the blotches comes from. probably the emulsion kinda sticks to the plastic or something. so i wanna clean the film so i can scan em on my epson scanner.

actually using water is correct but u have to carefully remove the film from the sleeve first.. do not wipe the film with a wet cloth instead dip the film in water filled in a clean container do it several times and hang the film to dry .. you will need to hang it properly as the film will get sticky when its wet.. it will take roughly 4 to 6 hours to dry fully.. once done you can scan it..
