Recommendations for dSLR camara?
Hey there everyone. I am actually looking into investing in a dSLR for quite sometimes. But still could not decide on which to buy. I actually did consider of getting the olympus e series cause earlier part of the promotion. They came with 2 different lenses with the body. And it was quite a reasonable price. But I am still considering. So any recommendations anyone?

i got that 2 lenses offer :P things are cheaper if you get olympus as well. esp for the 2nd hand market since there isn't a big demand for them. wahaha.

On the contrary, since the demand is lesser as there are fewer users, the availabilities and options of 2nd hand lenses are rather limited. I am a Canon user so naturally I'd say go for a Canon! :P The 400D should be good enough. ;) Or if you want something lighter and smaller, the Nikon D40x is quite good. Read about their reviews and -*test*-('") them out at the shops before you make your decision.

wahaha. cheap cheap. go olympus~ but ya, there are lesser 2nd stuffs out there. and some of them like flashes are higher to find (2nd hand). it depends on what ya expecting to spend on :P and well~ what are you using the cam for. :) gonna waste ya though~ you might not use the cam as much for a long long while~ since the camera is bigger, heavier...more obvious when ya using it.

Actually I am a nikon user. And I was thinking of getting the nikon d70s but then again, the difference in price of a d80 and d70s is actually not that great. But is a great conflict cos somehow I am thinking of investing in an additional len if I want to get a dSLR. And it does not come cheap with nikon lense. And my workscope is pretty underpaid. =P So... when I knew of the olympus deal, is really pretty tempting for me. Ol well. But hey guys, thanks for the speedy reply. And as Cindy knows it too, I am also looking at investing in a horizon. Has been like my dream camera forever. Laffs. So until I decided, will see what happens. All are so tempting.

the d80 is definitely value for money compared to d200 imho. but if budget is tight...i say go for 2nd hand d70. cheap and proven. 2nd hand price ranges anything from $550-700 nowadays, so it depends on your luck. spend your savings on a good lens. horizon ah..that one also can buy... Actually I am a nikon user. Get one that is within your budget! Hmm, I do know of a friend who wants to sell his D70s. Let me know if you're interested.

ok let's see Canon - no 1 in the market. - well received brand, alot of third party lenses and accessories alot of ppl use, means alot of ppl with experience.. Entry level: 400D, personally: hated the built of 350D, 400D improved alot.. but kinda small for my grip Nikon - second in the market. - well received brand. also alot of third party lenses and accessories. entry level: D50, D70S, D80 why i dun recommend D40x or D40? cuz it can only use Nikon's DX lenses or Sigma new lenses to AutoFocus.. the rest MANUAL Nikon's ergonomic is well proven. and that's why i own a Nikon D80 and a F90x Pentax - underdog, good and affordable camera, bad marketing and not full fledge distributor. But popular in Europe.. limited accessories Entry Level: K10DSuper, comes with Anti Shake, 10Mega, and yada yada whistle and bells.. :O u dun get camera with those features and comes with that price.. Olympus - new and odd 4by3 ratio picture... when you print a picture.. remember to tell them it is Digital Print of 4by3... and some of them still screw up. limited accessories, not much third party lenses. i dun recommend this :P Sony Alpha: well... it can use Konica Minolta's catalog lenses.. but ... is it good.. hmm i rather go for Pentax.. accessories are pretty only Sony's i would say go for Canon or Nikon why? cuz if u are budget user.. u can easily find a third party lenses or flashes or battery made for them. *example Zenitar Fish Eye Lens a fraction of the Nikon or Canon's price.. but comes with Nikon, Canon, Zenit and Pentax's Mount* Holga's Lens that comes with Nikon and Canon's mount* cheap and nice Tamron, Tokina, Sigma lenses... rarely they make for Olympus.. but there's Pentax version cuz in Europe, pentax is quite popular...

no problem when i got my dSLR.... the final contender was... Canon vs Nikon... for Canon.. you can only choose 400D or 30D, no in between :o 30D is out of my reach for Nikon.. you can choose.. D70s, D80, D50.. consider quite alot... after personally go down to the shop to HOLD the camera.. i find Nikon built is much better and ergonomic is better to hold. and the menu and learning curve is so much easier.. so i picked up a nikon, and even with a old nikon F90x thrown at me.. without manual.. i figured most of the basic function.. very easily.. that's how easy nikon is.. and another point on why i choose nikon D80 over canon 400D is that the supplied kit Lens from Canon is horrible!!!! i didnt find 1 shop that carry Canon 400D body only but there's plenty of shop carry Nikon D80 body only.. then u get hold of the infamous Nikon 18-200VR.. that will last u quite a while.. About the third party lens.. it is not necessary to get all Nikon or all Canon lenses. Tamron makes some good f/2.8 lenses for both of them... and some for Sony (konica minolta mount), and Pentax.. Tokina with it's infamous 12-24mm F/4 lenses ($800 vs $1.6K from Nikon) Sigma lenses... Zenitar Lenses.. Carl Zeiss... buy buy buy buy buy :P
