Yashica GSN/GTN/MG-1 battery mod
not sure where to post this so i try it here first :) was good to meet up with u guys today @ DDD i promised some guys to post pictures of the battery mod for my MG-1 cause its using the same battery as the 2 GSN that was there today :) they guys were using 4 pcs of LR44 and a lot of 5 cent coins in their cameras  this is the easier way to do it  the battery used here is the 4LR44, so there's no need to tape 4 pcs of small batteries together, it should cost about the same, the best place to get this battery is probably the specialised battery shop in SLS 2nd floor (near toilet at the backlanes) to make up for the space, i used some cheap screw and nut, use a big nut so that it doesn't move about as much in the battery compartment the 4LR44 is covered with cardboard to fill up the space, this is optional cause with the screw and nut in place the battery actually doesn't move about my MG-1 has the contact spring in the battery compartment, not sure about the GSN and GTN, i think they are the same here you can see how long the screw has to be, its about 3/4 the height of the battery, or the height of 3 pcs of LR44 the spring givs it tention for the contacts, if there's no spring in your camera, you can get them at Sim Lim tower, just buy one of those cheap battery holders and take out the spring :P i did the skin and light seals on my MG-1 maybe i'll post those later :D

wah i wanna noe where you get the leatherette for you cam and how you mod it ... looks damn sexy if I can -*test*-('") it on one of my cam... the leather is from a leather jacket maker in Pennisula, a very small shop in the basement...i bought some left over pcs of leather from him for $10 8) enough for about 4 cameras, i done 2 reskins so far...the MG-1 and my F photomic, still hav some left for another 2 cameras the colors is actually very lite, kind of like human skin :P i use a neutral color kiwi and polish it to this tone, also use a lighter to burn it to get the darker look  you'll need to tear out the original leather, be careful not to break it cause u need it as a stencil for the new leather draw the outline using the original, do the back cover first cause its the easiest and it givs u a change to alter a little if u get it wrong  the leather will stretch a little, so its ok to cut it a bit too small use a sharp penknife for the cutting i use UHO to glue the leather, this gule will not work on old harden leatherette, but it works for the new leather the leather im using is still a little too thick, get the thinest leather u can find, it will look better

Hmmm, as for the strap, I wanna try to get black leather, know where I can get it?

tropicalrips- 02-09-2008

Hmmm, as for the strap, I wanna try to get black leather, know where I can get it? i think the original is somthing like what i hav here...some kind of rope thingy...i seen it on very old GSN before, which is why i made my with the climbing rope, its good to look at but not good to actually use  i also hav "remade" or customised leather straps for this and my Rolleiflex they are made from belts :) this is also another shop in Pennisula, he does belt alterations and repairs, bring your camera along so he can measure the lenght and thickness needed, you will hav to buy the whole belt from him but he will do the alterations for free, i will find out the names of the shops tomorrow :)

Cool man! Roughly how much?

tropicalrips- 02-09-2008

lol! No la, budget ones will do! black would be good, just need it to look good & hang around my neck, damn heavy to carry it around. As for the leather straps, will the shop uncle do the buckles at the end for attaching it to the camera? Dont really like the climbing rope idea, after all the pespiration gets in it, kinda smells, leather at least has some leathery smell to it after time

Dont really like the climbing rope idea, after all the pespiration gets in it, kinda smells, leather at least has some leathery smell to it after time he has some smaller buckles...but they are still a little too big, he ask me to try looking for those buckles used for watches, they should be the rite size you'll need to provide him with the strap loops, i use those small key-chain ring loops, they work well

Royale With Cheese- 02-09-2008

hmmm... Looks like I gotta start finding buckles man....

Royale With Cheese- 02-09-2008

Hmmm, I cant find buckles, think will just use those rings from keychains
